Fazl criticises propaganda against Madaris

26 Dec, 2014

JUI (F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has criticised propaganda against Deeni Madaris and said it was part of international agenda for character assassination of the religious institutions. He conceded that there is need for reforms in religious institutions like every sector in the country. Talking to media persons here on Thursday, the Maulana said religious institutions have always played their role for sectarian harmony and opposed extremism.
He said army has an important role to play in the fight against terrorism. He said JUI(F) was not alone to support the removal of moratorium on hanging and establishment of military courts for speedy trial of terrorists but also other parties gave their backing as well. He said though they are not in favour of military courts, but in view of the given situation, it was necessary. Maulana Fazlur Rehman said there is no consistency in our strategy as we first enter into dialogue and then indulge in conspiracies which result in failures.
He said the JUI (F) is not in favour of handing over affairs of the state of army chief for two years. He regretted that the political leadership unfortunately gathered at a single platform after some tragedy. He said the law has not failed but we could not implement it.
