KP Assembly demands release of Aafia Siddiqui

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Wednesday passed a unanimous resolution demanding the release of Aafia Siddiqui from the US prison. The resolution tabled by Mohammad Ali, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) MPA from district Dir Upper was also carrying the signatures of the Sardar Aurangez Nalota of PML-N, Syed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha of PPP, Lutf-ur-Rehman (JUI-F), Inayatullah Khan JI, Mehr Taj Roghani PTI and Abdul Monim.
The resolution said that Aafia is languishing in the US prison for last several years and bearing this unjustified cruelty and excesses, which has spread a wave of grief and anger among the whole Muslim Ummah. The resolution said that the whole world is aware of this cruelty and excesses of the United States, but neither any one had never put any pressure on it nor any step for her release is being taken.
The resolution further said that the release of Aafia Siddiqui is not only the responsibility of Muslim Ummah and the United Nations, but also of the government of Pakistan to put pressure on the United States in this regard. The resolution demanded of the federal government for putting pressure on the United Nations and United States for the immediate release of the 'innocent' daughter of Pakistan.
The speaker put the resolution to vote and the house adopted it unanimously. Through another unanimous resolution presented by Shaukat Ali Yusufzai of PTI, the house demanded of federal government for directing Nadra for issuance of the renewed national identity cards.
The legislator in his resolution said that the renewal of NICs has become a big problem, particularly for those going abroad. The resolution was put to vote and the house adopted it unanimously. Meanwhile, the Speaker deferred the resolution of the Abdul Sattar of PML-N for prohibiting the bowing of head as a gesture of respect of the Speakers of assemblies and judges, which the mover termed as un-Islamic and 'Shirk'.
Mufti Said Janan of JUI-F gives religious point of view over the matter and said Islam partially allowed such respect. Sardar Hussain Babak of ANP, Raja Faisal Zaman of PML-N, Nighat Orakzai of PPP and Senior Minister Inayatullah also spoke on the issue and urged the chair for deferring the matter. The chair later adjourned the proceedings of the house till Thursday 2:00 pm.
