White Cane Day today: Prime Minister for ensuring active role of visually-impaired in society

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has stressed enabling blind persons to play equal and active role in educational, economic, and social aspects of life like other citizens of the country. "It is our moral as well as religious obligation to look after the visually impaired people and provide them all possible facilities and opportunities to take part in normal activities of life," the Prime Minister said in a message on White Cane Day.
The PM expressed satisfaction that Pakistan Association of the Blind was observing White Cane Day on October 15 throughout the country, aiming at raising awareness about the access needs of people who were blind or had very low vision. He lauded the services of Pakistan Association of the Blind for the last more than five decades. "We must appreciate the Association for carrying this noble mission so zealously. The observance of White Cane Day every year reminds us of our responsibilities in this regard on one hand and creates awareness among the masses about problems of the blind, on the other," he said.
He called upon the philanthropists and other voluntary organisations to come forward and join hands with the Pakistan Association of the Blind to help alleviate the sufferings of this marginalized segment of society enabling them to contribute to the development and progress of the nation.
