Kashmir situation: Sartaj's letter delivered to UN chief

14 Oct, 2014

Pakistan's Ambassador to the United Nations, Masood Khan on Saturday delivered National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz's letter addressed to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the deteriorating security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir at Ban's office in UN Headquarters in New York, officials said Monday.
The letter was in turn transmitted to the UN chief, who was then in Cairo, by his office, as also to this month's Council President, Ambassador Maria Cristina Perceval of Argentina. The letter, in which Sartaj Aziz drew attention to the escalation of violence along the LoC and the Working Boundary between India and Pakistan and sought UN intervention, has now been issued as a document of the Security Council. On Friday, the secretary-general issued a statement voicing his concern about the situation, and deplored the loss of lives and the displacement of civilians on both sides. He also encouraged India and Pakistan to resolve all differences through dialogue.
