The Lahore High Court here on Thursday directed Registrar of the court to take concrete steps for providing facilities for disabled persons at the Principal Seat as well as its Benches at Bahawalpur, Multan and Rawalpindi. The court asked the registrar to get reports in this regard from all the District and Sessions Judges of Punjab for provision of facilities (ramps, toilets, and parking area) till September 11.
The court desired that those facilities be added at the LHC and the district judiciary on a war footing and the court buildings must set a trend for other government buildings to follow the suit. Earlier, Registrar Mahboob Qadir Shah told to the court that ramps for disabled persons had been constructed in the LHC but there was no arrangement for toilets and parking facilities.
Director Architecture also present in the court stated that facility of ramps and toilets were available in newly 13 under-construction public buildings while parking areas near the buildings would also be earmarked to facilitate the special persons. He further said that in future those facilities would be accessible in all the official structures. The court directed him to submit a list of public buildings lacking such facilities within a fortnight for necessary work.
A representative of Lahore Transport Company was directed to make a plan for ensuring such facility in the public transport. Lahore Development Authority was also directed to submit a report in this regard before the next date of hearing. The court was hearing a petition filed by Zain Zahid Ali. He sought provision of facilities including ramps, toilets and parking lots for special persons in the public buildings.
