The Islamabad High Court on Friday issued a contempt of court notice to acting chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Pervez Rathore for allegedly violating court's orders. A single- member bench of Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi heard a contempt of court application filed by Fareeha Iftikhar and Israr Ahmed Abbasi - private members of the authority - who had contended that Rathore was undertaking official duties despite a June 09 interim order of IHC.
During the course of proceedings, the petitioners pleaded that the bench on June 9 while hearing a petition filed by them against the appointment of Rathore had ordered to maintain status quo in the affairs of Pemra till June 17. The court while issuing a contempt of court notice to Rathore, directed him to personally appear before the court and submit a reply on the matter in 10 days. It is pertinent to mention that the bench had decided on June 9 to hold a joint hearing of all petitions filed in the IHC on the Pemra issue.
