Shahbaz for evolving system of self-accountability

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that government departments and institutions will have to improve their efficiency at any cost for providing better services to the masses and such reforms will be introduced in them as would directly benefit the common man.
While chairing a high level meeting here on Monday, which reviewed various proposals for capacity-building of government departments for providing better services to the citizens, Shahbaz said that a system of self-accountability will be evolved for enhancing performance of government departments and institutions and they will have to play an active and vibrant role for resolving people's problems.
The Chief Minister said that there is a need to bring changes of fundamental nature in the system for extending better services to the citizens. He said that expectations of the people can be fulfilled only with renewed determination and a spirit of public service and benefiting from information technology is of paramount importance in this regard.
He said that Punjab government is fully utilising information technology for capacity- building of government departments and institutions. He said that performance audit of all departments and institutions is necessary for evaluating their efficiency on regular basis and Punjab government will adopt an effective mechanism for monitoring the performance of officers and staff so that honest and hard working officials could be encouraged while those showing poor performance could be held accountable.
He said that government departments and institutions will have to improve their efficiency at any cost for providing the best facilities to the citizens and evolve such a system, which could help resolve people's problems expeditiously. The Chief Minister further said that the training system of government officers and staff should be modernised and basic reforms will have to be introduced in service delivery system so that people could be facilitated in the real sense.
He further said that provincial departments will have to set targets for the next four years and devised a comprehensive mechanism for their achievement. He said that there is a need to simplify the matters related with the citizens so that government departments could better facilities to the masses.
The Chief Minister issued instructions for formation of sub-committees for formulating final recommendations for capacity-building of government departments and delivery of the best services and directed that the sub committees should submit proposals within the fixed period.
Commissioner Lahore Division and Director General LDA gave a detailed briefing to the meeting on public sector management reforms and capacity-building of government departments and institutions. The participants of the meeting gave various proposals for the capacity-building of government departments and institutions and extending the best facilities to the citizens.
Provincial Ministers Rana Sanaullah, Tanvir Aslam Malik, Member Provincial Assembly Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development, concerned secretaries, experts from private sector and senior officers attended the meeting.
