ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry, together with like-minded former party colleagues, kicked off efforts to bring together the PTI defectors for a possible solution to the current problems and uncertain situation.

Talking to media persons along with Imran Ismail and Mahmood outside Adiala jail after holding a meeting with Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the jailed PTI vice chairman, Chaudhry said that he had a good discussion with Qureshi in the jail for the “joint efforts”.

Besides holding a meeting with Qureshi, he added that they also had contacted Asad Umar, Asad Qaiser, Pervez Khattak, Hammad Azhar, Ali Zaidi, Atif Khan, Shehram Tarakai, and others who have parted ways with the PTI in the wake of May 9 events.

“We believe that Pakistan needs to move towards a stable solution and we will head in that direction,” said Fawad Chaudhry, the former information secretary of PTI who recently parted ways with the PTI upon his release from prison.

Without explaining the future strategy, he said that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government cannot be given a free hand in the current political and economic crises for which he held the ruling coalition responsible.

“Pakistan has a population of 250 million people who cannot be left at the mercy of Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Without any opposition, there would be a further crisis in the country, an increase in poverty and increased uncertainty. For solution of these crises, we will make our efforts. For that we need to stand with our ideology,” he said.

He said that there is uncertainty in the country and the PDM government is directly responsible for it, adding that under the current circumstances, the PDM cannot be given an open field to play unchallenged and unopposed.

He said that it is also their collective responsibility to get the workers free from the jails who had no direct role in the May 9 events.

“What has happened earlier, it was our collective responsibility to stop that from happening, but unfortunately that occurred. Now, we also have a collective responsibility to make efforts for the release of a large number of workers who have not any direct link to the events,” he said.

The move comes at a time when former PTI leader Jahangir Tareen is making efforts to bring together a likely new political party those who have parted ways with Imran Khan in the wake of May 9 events. Tareen, together with Awn Chaudhry and Aleem Khan, held many meetings in Lahore with PTI defectors.

However, Fawad Chaudhry did not take queries when reporters tried to put questions for further clarity.
