ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister, Imran Khan has directed the Minister for Finance and Revenue, Shaukat Tarin and Minister for Energy, Hammad Azhar to restore tax concessions on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), aimed at minimizing suffering of people.

During a recent meeting of Federal Cabinet, Prime Minister drew attention to the increase in the price of LPG, which would affect the common man.

Minister for Energy explained that the domestic price is linked to the import price, which had risen due to withdrawal of tax concessions in the last budget.

The Prime Minister directed the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Energy to revisit the withdrawn tax concession on imported LPG so as to provide relief to the citizens living in the remote areas, where piped gas was not available.

According to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), one kilogram of LPG will now cost Rs175. The LPG cylinder used for household purposes will be available for Rs2060 after an increase of Rs58, while the commercial cylinder will be sold at Rs7926 after a hike of Rs223.

LPG is used in rural areas, far-flung areas and those urban areas where natural gas is not available.
