Activities of Karachi Port and Port Qasim

KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 161,146 tonnes of cargo comprising 93,581 tonnes of import cargo and 67,565 tonnes of export cargo including 7,333 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargos of 93,581 tonnes comprised of 63,189 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,001 tonnes of soy bean seed; 3,438 tonnes of sugar; 6,256 tonnes of wheat and 13,697 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 67,565 tonnes comprised of 24,857 tonnes of containerised cargo; barite lumps and 32,370 tonnes of clinkers.

As many as 7,333 containers comprising of 4,741 containers of import and 2,592 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 955 of 20's and 1,823 of 40's loaded while 00 of 20's and 70 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 554 of 20's and 376 of 40's loaded containers while 172 of 20's and 557 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were seven vessels Shiling,Onyx-1,Caledonia,NagoyaExpress,Amis Nature, X-Press Bradsey and SC Hong Kong carrying containers, tankers and clinkers respectively currently at the berths.

There was one ship namely Global Glory sailed out to sea during the reported period. One ship Nagoya Express expected to sail.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 175,151 tonnes comprising of 125,899 tonnes of import cargo and 49,252 tonnes of export cargo including 2,583 loaded and empty containers (373 TEUs imports and 2,210 export), was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 125,899 tonnes includes 7,o87 tonnes of containerised cargo; 66,028 tonnes of coal; 17,329 tonnes of steel coil; 15,000 tonnes of furnace oil; 11,538 tonnes of palm oil; 6,000 tonnes of soy bean; 2,710 tonnes of LPG and 207 tonnes of gas oil.

The total export cargo of 49,252 tonnes includes 41,990 tonnes of containerised cargo and 7,262 tonnes of rice.

There are eighteen ships currently at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim and waiting for berths; out of them six ships, CMACGM Butterfly, Maersk Nile, Infinity sky, Baleen, Gaschem Doollart and Apollo and other ship Sonagol carrying containers, coal, soy bean, coal, chemicals, palm oil, and natural gas are expected to take berths at QICT, PQEPT, FAP, EVTL, LCT and PGPCL respectively on Thursday 12th August 2021.
