Shafqat Mahmood clarifies class 9th, 11th exams are not being canceled

Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood has clarified that examinations for classes 9 and 11 have not been canceled.

The minister in a tweet dispelled rumors that exams have been canceled saying that there is no truth in rumors that they will not be held. "Class 9 and 11 exams will take place according to the timetable of the respective boards," Mahmood tweeted.

Earlier, there were rumors that the government was considering promoting grade 9 and 11 students without examinations, due to the rising coronavirus cases across the country. Last year, the students were passed without sitting exams.

Mahmood also shared that the government was pondering over the decision to conduct exams to promote students to the next grade. He said the government will take tough decisions to save the academic year of all students during the pandemic and has been in talks with colleges and universities, Radio Pakistan reported.

The minister further clarified that exams will be held and no student will be promoted on the basis of that.

Last month, the government canceled O and A level exams which will now be held in October-November. The education minister had announced that there will be no exams in the country till June 15.
