Sindh govt seeks Army’s deployment

KARACHI: The Sindh government has sought approval from Interior Ministry for the deployment of Pakistan Army in aid of civil power in the province to ensure adherence to Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

In a letter to Secretary Ministry of Interior Islamabad, the Home Department Sindh has said: "The services of armed forces of Pakistan in aid of civil power are required under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan,"

The request came in the light of April 23rd decision of National Coordination Committee's (NCC).

"Exact nature of deployment of troops and equipment will be communicated in due course of time after carrying out requisite assessment in consultation with [the] quarters concerned," reads the letter.

The letter further stated that, "It is, therefore, requested to kindly accord approval for deployment of Armed Forces in aid of Civil Power in the Province of Sindh."
