Senior IR officials: FTO orders probe into complaint

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has ordered an investigation into a complaint against few senior Inland Revenue officials in the field formations, who have been accused of misusing the Prime Minister’s relief package for payment of tax refunds to the taxpayers.

In this regard, the FTO office has issued notices to the Secretary Revenue Division and an Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue in complaint number 0690/ISB/IT/2021.

Details of the case revealed that a complaint has been lodged by tax lawyer Waheed Shahzad Butt, Advocate accused that some senior tax employees denied PM relief package and allegedly involved in malpractices, while allowing tax refunds under the said package.

The FTO has ordered to conduct an investigation into the said complaint and notice has been issued to submit reply to the allegations contained in the complaint by April 23, 2021 as required under Section 10(4) of the FTO Ordinance, 2000 read with Section 9(1) of the Federal Ombudsman Institutional Reforms Act 2013.
