BRASILIA: Brazilian savings accounts grew by 13.2 billion reais ($2.4 billion) in September, central bank figures showed on Tuesday, as the coronavirus pandemic continued to put a squeeze on spending across the country.

It was a record for any September since comparable figures were first compiled in 1995, the central bank said, and marked an increase from August's 11.4 billion reais net increase in deposits.

Net deposits in the first nine months of the year stand at 137.2 billion reais, a record for any January-September period since 1995 and a stark contrast to the 6.6 billion reais in outflows in the same period last year, central bank figures showed.
