LAHORE: The United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) aiming to strengthen women by introducing new features to the authority's Women Safety App for reporting of violence cases.

The MoU was inked during the visit of Dr Aida Orgocka, adviser to the UNPFA on Women Empowerment, led by a three-member delegation at the PSCA headquarters on Friday. PSCA Chief Operating Officer (COO) Muhammad Kamran Khan gave a detailed briefing to the delegation about the authority and its mobile-based Women Safety App developed to report violence and harassment-related cases.

Under the agreement, a PSCA spokesperson said the UNFPA would help them in improving existing and introducing new features to the Women Safety App with an aim to strengthen women facing violence or harassment related issues. "The PSCA will do more to protect women in collaboration with the UNFPA as per the agreement," he said, adding the UNFPA will support the authority in building the institutional capacity and establishing systems through a series of trainings on the gender related themes and also educate women about the women safety application in order to make women's security more effective.

Initially, the UNFPA will conduct various training seminars and awareness campaigns to promote the women safety application and empower women, he concluded.
