Bills related to FATF compliance

31 Jul, 2020

LETTER: To India's chagrin, Pakistan's National Assembly passed, amid uproar and protest from the opposition parties, two bills critical for Pakistan's compliance with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) requirements to possibly bring the country out of its "grey list".

The Opposition must not lose sight of the fact that India is in fact hell-beat on relegating Pakistan to the 'black list'. It appears to be recklessly determined to achieve this 'goal' or 'objective' at all costs. The Opposition is, therefore, required to lend a helping hand to a seemingly beleaguered PTI government to successfully extricate the country from the 'grey list' and thwart India's nefarious designs. Be that as it may, sanity seems to have finally gained ground. The Opposition parties ultimately played a highly constructive and positive role in Senate yesterday. The passage of these bills by the upper house of parliament says it all.
