CHICAGO: Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures closed lower on Thursday on technical selling amid a lack of significant news and a day after the September contract rose 1.8%, traders said.

CBOT September soft red winter wheat settled down 3-1/4 cents at $5.29-1/2 per bushel.

K.C. September hard red winter wheat ended down 5-3/4 cents at $4.40 a bushel while MGEX September spring wheat bucked the weak trend, rising 2 cents to finish at $5.13.

The US Department of Agriculture reported export sales of US wheat in the week ended July 23 at 676,600 tonnes, above a range of trade expectations for 250,000 to 650,000 tonnes.

The market shrugged off support from a weaker dollar, which tends to make US grains more attractive on the world export market. The greenback has been in a monthlong nosedive as the continued spread of coronavirus across US states weighs on the economy.
