Pakistan Army appoints Major General Nigar Johar as first lieutenant general

The officer belongs to the medical corps and has been appointed as the army's first female surgeon general.

The Pakistan Army has promoted a woman to the rank of lieutenant general for the first time.

According to the ISPR, Major General Nigar Johar, who hails from Panjpeer in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is the first female officer to be promoted to lieutenant general. The officer belongs to the medical corps and has been appointed as the first female surgeon general of the Pakistan Army.

She is only the third female major general in the Pakistan Army and has previously served as deputy commandant of Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi, as well as commandant of the Pak-Emirates Military Hospital, the army's biggest medical facility.

She completed her MBBS from Army Medical College and holds an MCPS in Family Medicine, Masters in Public Health and MSc in Advanced Medical Administration.
