THE RUPEE: Losses prevail

KARACHI: On Tuesday, Pakistan Rupee lost value in both interbank and open markets against USD as well as against other major currencies in open market.

Against Euro, PKR lost one rupee for buying and 1.50 rupees for selling over yesterday's rates closing at 185.50 and 187.50 respectively.

Against UAE Dirham, PKR lost 30 paisas for buying and 10 paisas for selling closing at 45.20 and 45.40 respectively.

Against Saudi Riyal, PKR lost 20 paisas for both buying and selling closing at 44.10 and 44.30 respectively.

According to currency dealers, the short supply phenomenon of the greenback prevailed throughout the trading session which helped its appreciation for buying and selling at Rs 167.20 and Rs 168.40 against the overnight closing trend of Rs 166.50 and Rs 167.70 respectively.

Similarly, the rupee also followed suit in the process of trading against the pound sterling. Consequently, the pound's buying and selling rates significantly rose from the Monday's closing of Rs 205.00 and Rs 206.70 to Rs 206.50 and Rs 208.10 respectively, they added.

The dollar opened at Rs 167.50 (buying) and Rs 167.60 (selling) against last rate of Rs 167 (buying) and Rs 167.10 (selling).

It closed at Rs 167.50 (buying) and Rs 167.60 (selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold remained Rs 108,900 (selling) and Rs 108,500 (selling) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
