Sharjeel challenges his arrest in accountability court

06 Nov, 2017

Sharjeel, who along with other accused persons was nabbed by the corruption watchdog outside the Sindh High Court (SHC) after the bench revoked their interim bails on 23 October, filed an application before the trial court challenging his arrest at the hands of NAB. He has filed another application seeking ‘B-class facilities’ in the prison.

Sharjeel’s counsel Amir Raza Naqvi informed the court that the NAB had arrested his client immediately after the cancellation of bail and without having warrant to arrest him.

He added that the NAB investigating officer had also falsified the facts regarding Sharjeel’s arrest. He was arrested from the court premises but in the papers submitted to the court his arrest was shown from somewhere else, Naqvi added.

Besides the former minister, other accused nominated in the corruption reference were also present during the hearing.

Sharjeel along with other accused had allegedly caused Rs. 5.76billion loss to the national exchequer through the embezzlement in the Sindh government's advertisement campaign on electronic media.

While reserving its verdict on application for B-class jail facilities, the court adjourned the hearing till November 18.
