The 16-time WWE champion John Cena is all set for an anticipated return in the ring, as WWE prepares to add twist between Jindar Mahal and Brock Lesnar showdown at Survivor Series.

The Cenation leader hasn't competed in the ring since he was narrowly defeated by Roman Reigns at No Mercy in September.

Cena, 40, appeared to say his goodbyes to the crowd after the bout, similar to the Undertaker after his WrestleMania 33 exit.

However, a poster of Survivor Series leaked ahead of the pay-per-view revealed that Cena is not only returning to WWE, but he will be a special guest referee for the match between WWE Champion and Universal Champion.

The match hasn’t have the hype as WWE is expecting it to have. On number of occasions Brock Lesnar has proved that he disserved the Universal Championship more than any other in the company. He defended the championship successfully since he won at Wrestlemania 32 against Bill Goldbarg.

Meanwhile, ex-Three Man Band member Mahal has so far failed to convince that he should hold the company's most prestigious belt.

Repeated victories over Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura are yet to dispel the belief he is a transitional WWE Champion. Even Lesnar's manager Paul Heyman has bluntly described Jinder as a pretender and a "consolation prize champion".

WWE management clearly recognise this issue and have reportedly decided to bolster the match-up between the two title holders. With Cena added to the mix, WWE may get what they wanted out from it or Cena may get another shot at the title.
