Due to a relatively low capacity of Sukkur Barrage, Ghotki, Sukkur, Kashmore and Shikarpur would be hit directly, the PDMA chief said. He said the district governments and Sindh Irrigation Department have developed of rescue strategy to provide relief to the affected persons.
He said that co-ordination between the provincial health department and the District Co-ordination Officers (DCOs) had also been established to provide the affected people with medical facilities. Besides, Sindh Fisheries and Livestock Department have also been taken on board to plan shifting of livestock to the safe places and to vaccinate them with a view to avoiding the attack of different diseases among the animals, he said, adding that United Nations (UN) agencies had also been briefed about the expected destruction from flash floods.
He said the provincial government had requisitioned the armed forces - Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force - to participate in rescue work. "Pakistan Army has set up two monitoring cells at Pano Aqil and Hyderabad garrisons for monitoring," he said. "Pakistan Navy has sent 20 motorboats to the dangerous areas and is presently performing its activities at Indus Delta," he said, adding that the Pakistan Air Force has been requested to provide aerial drop and aerial lift services to stranded people.
