16 Apr, 2010

Holders Lahore Whites thrashed Rawalpindi's Askari Green by 95 runs to win the 12th National Seniors Cricket Cup (North Zone) 2010 at LCCA Cricket ground on Thursday. Khawaja Nadeem Ahmed, President of the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) was the Chief Guest, while Pakistan Veteran Cricket Association (PVCA)' Chief Executive Officer Ashiq Hussain Qureshi was also present.
Nadeem congratulates Whites for winning the North Zone final ninth times after triumphs in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. He said, "If LCCA want to get prosperous results than only total committed, welfare-oriented persons will be needed. There had been an unchecked downward slide in Lahore cricket in past and unless concerted efforts were taken the situation would plunge to abysmal depths.
Unfortunately, there are no job descriptions, accountability and Standing Operation Procedure (SoP) in outgoing administration of LCCA, which has failed to deliver despite being in power for decades. I will go out all out to save Lahore Cricket." Under Ghaffar Kazmi, Lahore Whites made 264-8 in the 30 overs. In reply, Major Nadeem-led Askari managed only 169 in allotted overs despite superb unbeaten 97 by Irfan Bhatti.
During prize distribution ceremony, winner Lahore Whites and runner-up Askari Green received Rs 150,000 and 75,000, respectively. Ghaffar Kazmi was voted Player of the final and received Rs 5000, while Rs 10,000 were given to Man of the Tournament Javed Malik (Multan Tigers).
Best Bowler Award of Rs 7500 was shared by Tariq Rasheed (Lahore Whites) and Iftikhar Ahmed (Sayid Paper Stags) and in same way, Best Wicket keeper Award divided into Zahid Umar (Lahore Whites) and Rafaqat Ali (Sayid Paper Stags).
