Foreign tours: Senate body asks for details of gifts received by dignitaries

Senate Standing committee on cabinet secretariat, inter-provincial co-ordination and special initiatives has directed the cabinet division to provide details of the gifts received by the dignitaries during their foreign tours. The Committee which met here on Wednesday, Senator Shahid Hassan Bugti in the chair directed the concerned authorities to deposit the gifts received by the government dignitaries in 'Tosha Khana'.
The committee also expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of Ogra and Nepra. They also directed the concerned departments to improve their working and performance with a view to achieve the desired objectives of controlling oil, gas and electricity prices and bridge the demand and supply gap in the fields of oil, gas and power.
It was observed that the important divisions and departments have been attached with the Cabinet Secretariat and that all out effort would be made to bring about a revolutionary improvement in the system to enable these departments to work more effectively and efficiently.
The Committee appreciated the people's primary health care initiative and expressed the hope that the programme would be extended to those areas, which have so far remained neglected due to some reasons. It also lauded the quality of health services being provided by Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore and recommended that the Government should provide adequate land to establish Medical College.
Earlier, Additional Secretary Cabinet Division gave a detailed briefing on the functions and performance of the Cabinet Division. He gave a detailed overview of various departments under the purview of Cabinet Division besides administrative control of various regulatory authorities.
