Stephen Hawking will be voting for Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn on Thursday. The world-renowned astrophysicist has officially backed Corbyn, believing the Conservatives would be a “disaster” for public services.

“I’m voting Labour because another five years of Conservative government would be a disaster for the National Health Services, the police and other public services," Hawking said in a statement after his meeting with local Labour leader Daniel Zeichner.

According to The Independent, Hawking previously used the same words for the Labor leader, calling him to “step down for the sake of the party”.

“I regard Corbyn as a disaster," he said. "His heart is in the right place and many of his policies are sound, but he has allowed himself to be portrayed as a left wing extremist.”

Despite agreeing with many of his policies, he added that Corbyn cannot win a general election.

The 75-year-old, regarded as the world’s smartest person, is a long-time Labour supporter. He had backed Zeichner at the 2015 election as well.

“I was delighted to meet Professor Hawking again and receive his support for my re-election and a Labour government," Zeichner said.
