Tractor production increases 72.9pc in nine months

ISLAMABAD: Domestic production of tractors during first three quarters of current financial year increased by 72.90 percent as compared the manufacturing of the corresponding period of last year.

During the period from July-March, 2016-17, 37,938 tractors were manufactured as against the manufacturing of 21,942 of same period of last year.

According the computation of 'Quantum Index Numbers' of large scale manufacturing industries, on month on month basis tractor production in the country grew by 48.43 percent as about 6,436 tractors were manufactured as compared the 4,336 tractors of same months last year.

Meanwhile, domestic production of trucks and buses also increased by 39.41 percent and 19.71 percent respectively in last nine months.

During the period under review, about 5,489 trucks were produced as compared the production of 3,940 trucks of same period of last year, where as domestic production of buses were recorded at 893 as compared the production of 746 buses of same period of last year.

On month on month basis, the domestic production of trucks and buses grew by 14.26 percent and 9.76 percent in March, 2017 as against the same months of last year.

In March, 601 trucks and 90 buses were produced as compared the production of 526 trucks and 82 buses of the same month of last year.

From July-March about 144,129 jeeps and cars were produced as compared the production of 137,688 of same period last year, which were up by 4.68 percent.

On the other hand domestic production of motorcycles were recorded at 1,841,050 in last nine months as against the production of 1,517,185 motorcycles of same period of last year, which was up by 21.35 percent.
