Travellers through Hong Kong's airport will face tougher security checks from next month when new anti-terror searches of drinks and liquids are introduced, the government said Tuesday.
The measures were recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organisation after Britain foiled an alleged terror plot to blow up airliners using liquid explosives smuggled on board in drinks bottles.
The new rules will restrict passengers to carrying liquids, gels and aerosols in containers no larger than 100 millilitres, which must be carried in a clear plastic bag. Exemptions will be made for medications, baby milk or food and special dietary requirements.
"All passengers ... will be subject to the new cabin baggage restrictions," chief operations officer of the Civil Aviation Department Simon Li said in a statement.
