LISBON: Portuguese consumer prices were flat in December after falling 0.5 percent the previous month, but year-on-year inflation was 0.9 percent, official data showed on Wednesday.

The National Statistics Institute said that petrol and transport costs rose in December while clothing prices fell.

December's yearly inflation rate of 0.9 percent was up from 0.6 percent in November and was mainly boosted by petrol prices that rose 10.7 percent through 2016. Average annual inflation in 2016 was 0.6 percent, up from 0.5 percent in 2015.
