NTN fee may be abolished

05 Jul, 2006

The government is likely to abolish Rs 50 fee charged for the issuance of National Tax Number (NTN). It has also been agreed in principle to waive Rs 60 fee collected on filing of Goods Declaration (GD) by importers/exporters. The fee has already been reduced from Rs 300 to Rs 60 per GD.
Sources said on Tuesday that CBR would announce these measures during the next Board-in-Council meeting. Following approval by the Council, the Board would notify this decision. Fresh applicants would be able to obtain NTNs free of cost in future.
