05 Jul, 2006

President Sindh Abadgar Board Abdul Majeed Nizamani in a letter to Federal Minister for Food And Agriculture Sardar Hayat Bosan requesting the minister to consider points while amending recommendations of Sugar Cane Act.
He said quality premium case is sub judice in honourable court, hence, any changes proposed might be proposed after the decision of the court case.
He said that growers or representative bodies of growers are not taken into confidence.
He said to their known of growers that the title of the act being changed to "Sugar Act" from "Sugar Cane Act". He said that we propose that this name should not be changed. The pricing formula is also being introduced if that is the case then the formula should be transparent and fair so that no injustice is done to the grower. The formula will be justified it due input is taken from the growers as well. Otherwise, the authenticity of the law may remain in question.
Next sugar cane season is round the corner getting into this may create confusion, jeopardising the interest of growers and consume of sugar and may also affected sowing of wheat.
That start of crushing season has always been a controversial issue. Even Government has had problems in enforcing its notification in lieu of that Sindh Abadgar Board proposes implementation of such a notification in letter and spirit.
