IGP forms body to probe causes of Friday's traffic jam

The Provincial Police Officer Jehangir Mirza, while taking notice of Friday's traffic jam and the hardships caused to the people as a result thereof has constituted a 4-member inquiry committee. The committee will identify factors resulting in traffic jam, determine the responsibility and prepare a comprehensive report.
The committee will be headed by Additional IG Investigation Syed Nayyar Hasnain and its members will include Additional IG Sindh Tariq Jamil, DIG Headquarters Saud Mirza and AIG Operations Abdul Razaq Cheema.
The committee while inquiring into the matter will ascertain whether all possible steps including deployment of additional police force, had been taken on the occasion of the rally.
It will also see whether proper liaison had been maintained with the Provincial government including Home Department, City District Government Karachi and also with concerned departments and agencies and also what traffic arrangements had been made. The IGP asked the committee to identify the weaknesses and shortcomings in the existing traffic system and formulate a report recommending short and long term measures for improvement.
