31 May, 2006

The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has proposed Mughal Railway Station in Rawat for establishment of Rawalpindi dry port. The proposal was made by Jalil Ahmed Malik, President RCCI here on Tuesday while talking to Muhammad Hayat Malik, Divisional Superintendent Railways who called on him in his office.
"Establishment of dry port at Mughal Railway Station near Rawat Industrial Estate (RIE) is imperative for rapid industrialisation in Rawalpindi region," Malik said.
He said that Rawalpindi was far away from industrial and agricultural activities as a result unemployment and poverty was major problems of the region. The only way to address unemployment and poverty is to give incentives to industrial sector and promote industrial activities in the region, Malik said.
He said that Rawat Industrial Estate is only private sector industrial estate and government should facilitate it to attract the private sector towards industrialisation. People are coming to Pakistan with open heart to invest their money and it is responsibility of the government to divert this money towards industrial production, he added.
