CDGK to construct four multi-storey car parking plazas

16 Apr, 2006

Karachi City District Government (CDGK) is planning to construct four multi-storey car-parking 'plazas' at different spots in the city to streamline the traffic system.
The likely spots for construction of the parking plazas are: Lines Area near Saddar Dawakhana; Shann Circle Clifton, M R Kiyani Road near Rehamin Art Gallery; and Boulton Market Tonga Stand.
The Transport and Communication Department (TCD) officials said that to cope with the immense traffic problems caused by parking in streets and on roads a survey was carried out to identify at least eight such locations for construction of multi-storey car parking plazas. They said that, of them, initially four places have been selected for constructing parking plazas, on which construction work would soon be initiated.
A TCD official said the car-parking plazas have been designed keeping in view the local conditions and environment and their construction had been configured with two basements and five stories each to meet the present and future car parking challenges in the metropolis.
He said that all proposed car-parking plazas would be completed in a short span of time, if the public and non-governmental organisations did not express further concerns over the construction of car-parking plazas and their locations.
