Pakistan automotive giant Pak Suzuki has announced to phase out its iconic Mehran 800cc from 2018 onwards and replace it with locally manufactured 660cc Suzuki Alto.

Suzuki Mehran has been one the most successful cars in the Pakistani market. The Pak Suzuki is further planning to introduce Celerio 1,000cc by March 2017 in place of Suzuki Cultus. The Suzuki Cultus came to Pakistan in 2000, reported Dawn.

The information was revealed during the visit of Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production at Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited (PSMCL) plant.

Mehran 800cc was introduced in 1988 when Suzuki replaced it with the Suzuki FX 800cc. Pak Suzuki revealed that its latest Alto 660cc will be fully produced in Pakistan.

The delegation was led by Senator Hidayatullah and included Khalida Parveen, Kalsoom Perveen and Chaudhry Tanvir Khan. The Senate committee asked the auto assembler to introduce global standard safety features in its new model.

The move would be opposed by local vendors, reported Pro Pakistani, on part of massive sales of Suzuki Mehran parts and accessories.
