IGP Sindh reviewed Muharram security measures

KARACHI: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, A.D. Khawaja, on Tuesday reviewed security arrangements for the 9th of Muharram.

He visited the Command and Control Centre here and later went round the route of the main 9th of Muharram mourning procession in the metropolis.

The IGP was briefed about the security steps that included the deployment of sharp shooter atop the buildings along the route of the main mourning procession besides the deployment of police commandos, officers and jawans.

He was informed that for the security of the main procession, 6,150 police officers and jawans have been deployed. For the security of over 346 Imambarghas, 567 Majalis, 279 processions and over Mohafils more than 19,519 police officers and jawans have been deputed.

A police report said that extra-ordinary security arrangements have been made.

Walk through gates were erected at the entrance of the Nishter Park in the metropolis and physical checking was also being ensured.

Such security steps have also being taken for the Husanian Iranian Imambargah.

The IGP directed that the effective implementation of the Muharram contingency plan be ensured. Effective steps be taken for patrolling, picketing as well as the snap checking.
