OICCI team briefed about government steps to promote trade

A seven-member delegation of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) Sub-Committee for Commerce, Industry and Environment met Federal Minister for Commerce Humayun Akhtar Khan here on Friday.
Led by Sohail Wajahat A. Siddiqui, the delegation represented various companies doing business in Pakistan. Commerce Secretary Asif Shah and Trade Policy Advisor of the Ministry of Commerce, Dr Nadeemul Haq also attended the meeting.
Key areas impacting overseas investors like intellectual property rights, infrastructure cess, tobacco cess, trade with India, value addition, non-tariff barriers of other countries and Pakistan's image abroad were discussed at length.
The Commerce Minister said the government was committed to promoting and developing commerce in Pakistan and that was manifested in the 2005-06 trade policy.
He said that the Ministry of Commerce (M0C) had a long-term vision to boost investor confidence and provide a sustainable framework for planning and investment.
The minister urged the members to benefit from the conducive environment for investment prevailing in Pakistan.
