Local government poll staff may be allowed postal balloting

The Election Commission of Pakistan has suggested amendments in the Local Government Ordinance to allow polling staff to cast their votes through postal balloting. Election Commission Secretary, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad told PTV that the staff performing polling duties in general elections was allowed postal balloting.
Returning officers and district returning officers were directed to promptly redress the complaints from any quarter, he said.
Talking about the first phase of LG polls process, he said the ministers were barred from influencing the elections in any form. The EC was preparing a documentary report in which it would be reported that how the EC had nullified the influence, he added.
The international media observers have termed the first phase of the LG elections as transparent, free and fair. The foreign observers expressed their astonishment on speedy manual process in announcing results, he added.
