Design, security features of currency notes to be changed

18 Aug, 2005

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) would gradually change the design and security features of all prevalent currency notes from next year, SBP Executive Director Farhat Saeed said.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said special security features, including three dimensional watermark and special ink would be used in the new notes, which would make forgery impossible. Efforts were under way to issue Rs 5,000 currency notes by December 2005.
There is no plan to replace Rs 10 note with coins, he added. The central bank had already replaced currency notes of one, two and five with coins.
