Some 3,000 troops of Rangers moved in on Tuesday for election day's security duty on August 18, at the polling stations of Ghotki, Kashmore and Jacobabad, APP officially learnt here. A spokesman of Shahbaz Rangers said the matter was decided at a high level meeting on Monday, which was chaired by Additional IG Police Sukkur, Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui.
He said the above three districts were in the first phase of local government elections and therefore "it is our first priority to ensure that everything goes well on the polling day."
He made it clear that Rangers jawans would not allow the gathering of people within a distance of 200 metres in the vicinity of polling stations as it would amount to violation of Section 144 Cr.PC.
"Anybody carrying weapons there can be arrested," he said.
