16 Aug, 2005

The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) on Monday filed an adjournment motion in the National Assembly Secretariat against the long power breakdown in Lahore on August 12-13.
ARD lawmakers, Aitzaz Ahsan, Begum Beelum Hasnain, Ms Shakila Khanum, Ms Samina Khalid Ghurki, Pervaiz Malik, Saad Rafique, and Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed signed the motion.
They sought debate in the House, suspending routine business on the performance of Wapda with special reference to one of the longest power suspensions in the provincial metropolis, a day before the Independence Day.
ARD Parliamentary Secretary Izhar Amrohvi pointed out that neither an inquiry was ordered nor were Lahorites enlightened why the supply of power could not be restored in the shortest possible time.
He said that power supply was suspended without any intimation on August 12 early morning and it could be restored in wee hours of August 13.
