ECP's report sought in delimitation of district case

16 Aug, 2005

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has called for a report from the Election Commission of Pakistan in a petition filed by one Dad Muhammad Siddiqui, who challenged the delimitation of district Nowshera.
The petitioner contended that the respondent election commission has constituted towns/tehsils in eight districts of NWFP. However, in Nowshera the respondent did not implement the formula set by election commission.
It was contended that action of the respondent was discriminatory, illegal and against the sprit of justice. He prayed to the court to declare the action of the respondent election commission as illegal and without lawful authority.
He also prayed to the court to direct the respondent to reconsider the delimitation of Nowshera.
The court, after hearing the petitioner's counsel at length, issued notice to the respondent election commission and called for a report without fixing next date of hearing.
