FDI likely to reach $1,200 million: Dr Ashfaq

Ministry of Finance Advisor Dr Ashfaq Hassan Khan has said Pakistan was making progress at high speed, saying the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) was likely to reach dollars 1,200 million during current fiscal year. Talking to BBC the Advisor said, "Our foreign investment was dollars 376 million during last five years. We are expecting it will reach dollars 1,200 million this year."
He said major investment came in various sectors including communication, oil and gas, banking, industry, power and chemical.
To a question, he said unemployment ratio in the country has reduced to some extent. "According to new survey, this year unemployment stands at 7.7 per cent, against 6.3 per cent of last year."
Elaborating the attained progress and development of the country, he said there were several other indicators of development.
He said about 450,000 motorcycles were being manufactured this years; earlier only 95,000 motorcycles were manufactured in the country annually.
To another question, he said people were investing in housing and property sector. The construction work was in full swing in the country and there was shortage of construction workers, he said adding that showed the pace of development.
