HBL seminar on fruit processing units on July 30

24 Jul, 2005

Habib Bank Limited is organising a seminar on "Scope of establishing fruit processing units" here on July 30. Prominent speakers would share views on various topics such as production of fruits, post-harvesting, cold supply chain, internal marketing and food safety.
The objective of the seminar is to facilitate the existing and potential parties in establishing fruit processing units, including exporters of mango and citrus fruits.
Presently 40 percent of fruits and vegetables produced are lost due to inadequate post0-harvest arrangements for storage and processing. These heavy losses can be avoided through proper post-harvest management and ensuring availability of processing units of these commodities in potential areas following international standards.
Picking, grading, polishing and packing of fruits and vegetables on international standards and processing these commodities for value-addition purpose can enhance the country's foreign exchange earnings considerably. The seminar is expected to be inaugurated by the Punjab Minister for Agriculture and Marketing. Other distinguished guests will include Federal Secretary for Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Provincial Secretaries and other dignitaries related to agro-based industries.
