Freight forwarders welcome industry status

The Pakistan International Freight Forwarders Council (PIFFC) has thanked the government for declaring the freight forwarding and logistics business as the industry. In a telegraphic massage to Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar, the PIFFC Chairman, Nazir Ahmed, said that freight forwarders are playing a vital role in the development of economy of Pakistan.
He said that the exports and imports irrespective of the quantum is handled by freight forwarders making it possible for the exporters and importers to deliver their cargo at the respective destinations. Besides the development of the trade, they are contributing towards the earning of the foreign exchange.
It were the freight forwarders who gave the idea for off dock warehouse and now there are many off dock warehouses in the country.
He said that by giving the freight forwarders the status of industry President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar and FPCCI President Muhammad Saeed have fulfilled the demand of the freight forwarders for which they had been requesting from a long time.
This will go a long way to improve the working of the freight forwarders and in turn the development of the trade and commerce of the country.
At this juncture PIFFC is very much thankful to the commerce minister who took special interest to recognise the working of the freight forwarders and endeavour his utmost to declare it an industry, he added.
He expressed hope that in future the freight forwarder fraternity will be enjoying full support and patronage of the commerce minister.
