Kuwait's mobile phone operator Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) has signed a $30 million contract with Motorola as part of a network expansion initiative, MTC said on Sunday. MTC said the deal would help it to increase the capacity, availability and voice quality of its network in Kuwait, while enabling its more than 1.5 million subscribers there to upgrade their services.
The upgrade includes deployment of Motorola's Network Support Program. MTC, one of the largest mobile operators in the Middle East and Africa, has more than 9.5 million customers in 18 countries: Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon and 13 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
In 2004, MTC's consolidated revenue was 322.33 million dinars ($1.01 billion) and consolidated net income was 120.24 million dinars.
