17 Jul, 2005

The Karachi Traffic Police will carry out a campaign from next Saturday (July 23) against under-age motorcyclists and those without a valid driving license. It has been decided to detain motorcycles in case of the two violations.
The decision was taken at a meeting, held under the chairmanship of Inspector General Police, Sindh Asad Jahangir Khan, at Central Police office here on Saturday. The IGP pointed out that ongoing research about street crimes had indicated that young motorcyclists are involved in majority of the cases.
He asked the Karachi CCPO to plan a workable strategy to check young age motorcyclists by detailing motorcycle police squads comprising of police personnel of ACLC, Operations and Traffic Branches.
Asad Jahangir directed the CCPO that detained motorcycles be released only after showing of original registration document by owners.
The Sindh IGP directed for establishment of complaint cells at main zonal offices of the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) to entertain public complaints, if any, in this regard.
Besides, Asad Jahangir directed that the public should be informed through press regarding the actions taken and results achieved, on daily basis.
