Government urged to issue passport to Nawaz Sharif

12 Jul, 2005

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Central Finance Secretary and member national assembly (MNA) Mohammad Pervaiz Malik has urged the Government should immediately issue passport to Mian Nawaz Sharif and provide him an opportunity to return home which was his legal and fundamental right.
Sharif's return should be viewed in greater national interest instead of satisfying the false ego by refusal, he added.
He was addressing a PML-N protest camp set-up against price hike but turned into a demonstration for return of Mian Nawaz Sharif.
Malik said the Government should also release PML (N) Acting President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and allow the party to work. This was the only way to unite PML and build a progressive, democratic, enlightened, moderate and true representative political set-up in future.
He said Government has already lost an opportunity in 2002 by refusing Passport to Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif but it cannot afford a mistake again. He said if deportation in 1999 was true, the return of Sharif Family in 2005 is prudential. He said the return of Mian Nawaz Sharif & Mian Shahbaz Sharif would not be possible as a result of any deal with the Military Government but an honourable and graceful return. Their honourable return was also in the interest of the rulers, he added.
He lauded the political sagacity and perseverance of Mian Nawaz Sharif that he sustained exile and never compromised on principles. He said the time of peace has surpassed and now the circumstances permit Mian Nawaz Sharif to return to which the rulers should adhere.-PR
