Call for promoting research in health sector

Punjab Health Minister, Dr Tahir Ali Javed, has directed the officials of health department Punjab to conduct research in public health disciplines so that better health care facilities could be provided to the public by utilising existing government resources.
While addressing a meeting here on Saturday, the minister emphasised the need for in service training of young doctors in administration, budget and accounts matters, as these people have to serve in small cities and far-flung areas of the province. He directed the authorities concerned to arrange training courses for doctors.
He also asked the authorities o provide technical support to the District Health authorities as the provision of better health care facilities to the common people at gross root level vests under the district government system. A planned research should be conducted on how hospital infection could be decreased, he asserted.
He said that the developmental budget of the health department has increased by 400 percent within two years, and Rs 3.3 billion have been provided in the current fiscal year for developmental activities. He said that primary healthcare infrastructure would be improved in present fiscal year under 'Chief Minister's Health Sector Reforms Programme', he added.
