87 percent area affected by flood in Sialkot

The current flash flood has inundated crops covering an area of 10,418 acres and 358 houses in 28 villages of Sialkot district. Official sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday afternoon that 87 percent area had been affected by the current flood spell in the district.
They said that one death has been reported so far in the district. Army jawans, civil defence volunteers and razakars had completed the evacuation process of marooned people in flood-hit areas of the district.
Earlier, this correspondent visited several submerged villages of Chaprar area of tehsil Sialkot and saw that a number of families were shifted to safer localities and to relief camps where food and medical treatment facilities were being provided to them.
The affected people demanded that Chaprar should be declared calamity area for remission of Taqavi loans and reconstruction and extension of bridge at Chaprar. They also demanded repair of roads and bridges and construction of more spurs in the area.
All seasonal nullahs and rivers were flowing normally.
