Suspect package causes Rome airport disruption

10 Jul, 2005

Police evacuated part of Rome's Fiumicino airport Saturday after the discovery of a suspect package in the zone occupied by British Airways, Israel's El Al carrier and United States airlines, airport authorities said. Check-in was suspended temporarily as security forces dealt with the abandoned baggage in Terminal C.
However, the airport management company said that only a Continental Airlines flight to New York was delayed by 20 minutes.
Normal service was unaffected in other parts of the airport, it said. Security has been stepped up at Fiumicino and other Italian airports in the wake of the London attacks.
